A rapidly growing retail corporation is seeking an experienced Controller to join their team! The Controller will be a key financial manager and a close partner to the Chief Financial Officer and senior management team. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will maintain the company’s critical financial infrastructure and control environment while managing its day-to‑day accounting, cash management, and financial reporting activities.

The successful candidate will be a CPA with extensive knowledge of GAAP.

Job Duties

Accounting Processes: Lead and manage daily accounting functions, including general ledger (G/L), banking, payroll, fixed assets, leases, reconciliations, vendors, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Internal Controls: Maintain and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect assets and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Audit: Manage financial and other external audits to Big 4 and private company quality standards.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations, including tax and compliance.

Financial Reporting: Lead monthly financial closes and consolidations and prepare accurate and timely financial statements (GAAP and cash‑basis) for internal and external use.

Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with management to create and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.

Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.

Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimal capital cost.

Operational / Transactional Support: Work closely with the CFO to support various internal departments and external constituencies, including through new unit development, refinancings / recapitalizations, and potential M&A.

Technology: Implement and maintain best‑in‑class accounting and finance systems to streamline processes, drive automation, and facilitate operational scalability.

Staff Management: Supervise, motivate, and mentor accounting staff to maintain a high‑performance yet risk‑managed culture.

Experience & Skills Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA required with extensive knowledge of GAAP and cash-basis presentation and reporting requirements for a growing business, including ASC 842 (leases).

7‑10+ years of accounting and finance experience, including as a controller, auditor, or similar high‑performing accounting role.

Experience in multi‑unit retail, restaurant, consumer, or franchise operations.

Proficiency with G/L (Great Plains preferred), lease accounting (ProLease preferred), and budgeting / reporting (Adaptive Insights preferred) systems.

Strong Excel skills (financial modeling, pivot tables, advanced functions).

Skilled in managing key third parties (e.g., investors, lenders, auditors, vendors, landlords) and possesses strong communication, organizational, and team‑development skills.
