Occupational Therapist (Anticipated Vacancy) (SY25-26) Join Boston Public Schools as an Occupational Therapist. This anticipated vacancy is expected to be vacant by 12/31/2025. The current incumbent has the right to rescind retirement until the vacancy date. Hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacant; you may start as a Long‑Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.

Occupational Therapists provide services to students with fine motor, visual‑motor, and sensory skills to enable access to the BPS curriculum and participation in school and community life. This role offers the opportunity to serve where efforts matter in an environment that supports creativity, innovation, and respect for occupational therapists.

Responsibilities

Evaluate students referred for assessment using appropriate instruments.

Write reports that reflect standardized tests and observations, providing clear recommendations.

Complete evaluations within timelines established by state and federal regulations.

Provide therapy and consultation services based on individual needs, in compliance with IEP or 504 Plan.

Offer services in the least restrictive setting.

Participate in pre‑referral, Team Meetings, Student Support Team activities, and deliver professional development to school‑based staff as requested.

Consult with related‑services providers, teachers, and parents for effective services.

Maintain state‑licensed certification renewal compliance.

Develop, update, and adhere to daily and weekly schedules; submit schedule to principal.

Follow BPS rules, policies, and procedures, including those of assigned schools and Special Education and Student Services.

Maintain accurate records of planning, lessons, therapy notes, and student attendance.

Qualifications – Required

Master’s Degree

Massachusetts License in Occupational Therapy

Current authorization to work in the United States (must have by first day of employment)
