Norwalk Hospital Location: Norwalk, Connecticut. A 366‑bed academic and community medical center serving Fairfield County and the surrounding New York Metro area. The hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and Joint Replacement Center of Excellence, providing advanced cancer, heart, and neuroscience care.

Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver services, assess patient needs, implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and nursing standards.

Responsibilities

Complete patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.

Document detailed information, incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.

Ensure appropriate documentation based on the level of care, including transfer and discharge documentation as required.

Follow the five rights of medication administration and verbally communicate medications to patients and families.

Coordinate and supervise the delivery of nursing care, delegating tasks and maintaining accountability for delegated care.

Promote a culture of safety: assess patients for safety risks, adhere to policies, initiate appropriate interventions, conduct bedside shift reports and rounds, document the application of the nursing process, and ensure proper hand‑offs during breaks.

Assess learning needs of patients/families; plan and provide instruction using applicable teaching methods; document responses.

Care for specific patient populations as required.

Deliver patient‑centered care by embracing cultural diversity, respecting dignity, and maintaining open communication.

Meet accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities.

Promote a culture of learning and growth: seek learning experiences, teach others through mentorship.

Perform other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.

Education & Qualifications Associate’s degree or higher. Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse license (CT Hospitals). Preferred certifications: American Nurses Association endorsed certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses certifications (based on specialty hours).

Working Conditions

Manual: significant manual skills and fine motor coordination.

Occupational: some occupational risk.

Physical effort: medium to heavy; may exert up to 35 lbs.

Environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.

Credentials: RN, BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS.
