Primary Function:
The CM/DM Specialist II supports the full lifecycle management of technical data, configuration baselines, engineering changes, and documentation for aerospace and defense programs. This role ensures compliance with DoD, FAA, and industry standards while maintaining data integrity, traceability, and controlled release of technical products. The CM/DM Specialist II independently performs mid-level configuration and data management activities and contributes to continuous improvement of CM/DM processes, tools, and governance.
Configuration Management (CM)
Maintain and control configuration baselines for assigned programs in accordance with MIL-HDBK-61A, EIA-836, AS9100D, and internal CM plans.
Execute change management processes including Change Requests (CRs), ECPs, RFD/RFAs, waivers, and deviations.
Support configuration audits (FCAs/PCAs) and prepare supporting artifacts.
Verify that classified and controlled technical information complies with distribution statements per DoDI 5230.24 and DoDI 5230.09.
Monitor configuration status and maintain accurate configuration records in PLM/CM systems (3DX, ENOVIA, Windchill, Teamcenter, etc.).
Data Management (DM)
Manage receipt, control, storage, and distribution of Government-Furnished Information (GFI) and Contractor-Furnished Information (CFI).
Maintain and update Data Accession Lists (DALs), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), and Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
Ensure technical documents follow contract requirements, DID specifications, and quality standards.
Oversee release and approval workflows, ensuring all data meets quality and security requirements before distribution.
Track deliverables and submit CDRLs/SDRLs to customer portals in accordance with contractual schedules.
Coordinate with Contracts, Engineering, QA, and Program Management to monitor data maturity, timeliness, and compliance.
Tools & Systems
Use PLM, CM, and data repositories (3DX/ENOVIA, Autodesk Fusion Manage, Windchill, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) to manage configuration items and data.
Maintain metadata integrity, file naming convention standards, and audit trails.
Support system migrations, data cleanup, and structure updates as assigned.
Compliance & Governance
Apply CM/DM requirements defined in the SOW, POs, SSOWs, and program-unique CM plans.
Follow cybersecurity and CUI handling requirements per DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST 800-171.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives for CM/DM policies, workflows, and document templates.
Work Conditions
Office environment with hybrid or on-site requirements depending on program needs.
May involve handling of CUI or classified materials (training provided).
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data/Information Management, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience.
2–5 years of experience in CM/DM roles within aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or engineering environments.
Working knowledge of configuration control standards (MIL-HDBK-61A, EIA-649, EIA-836).
Experience with Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), CDRLs/SDRLs, and technical document control.
Proficiency with PLM/CM tools (3DX/ENOVIA, Windchill, Teamcenter, Autodesk Fusion Manage, SharePoint, etc.).
Understanding of AS9100D requirements and quality system integration.
Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and process discipline.
Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly with engineering, QA, contracts, and program leadership.
Preferred Requirements
DoD experience supporting NAVAIR, USAF, Army, NAVSEA, or similar clients.
Knowledge of DoDI 5230.24, 5230.09, 5200.48, and controlled technical information requirements.
Familiarity with aircraft Sustainment, Maintenance Planning (MSG-3), or logistics documentation.
Experience with configuration audits and release management.
CM/DM or PLM certifications (CMPIC, CMII, DAU courses, SAE certifications).
