Overview The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida invites applications for a full‑time, tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Animal Sciences. The role combines strategic leadership, teaching, research, and extension to advance the department’s mission of providing world‑class education, transformative research, and impactful outreach to the state and global animal agriculture communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead stakeholder engagement and align the department with its mission and program priorities.

Consult with an advisory board and industry partners to guide program development and impact.

Provide vision, support, and coordination for departmental programs in teaching, research, and extension.

Encourage strategic, interdisciplinary programs that address national priorities in animal agriculture.

Deliver financial leadership and stewardship of the department’s resources, ensuring long‑term sustainability.

Identify and promote external funding opportunities, including public and private sources.

Recruit, retain, and develop faculty, staff, and students, fostering a collegial culture.

Advance undergraduate and graduate education, including recruitment, retention, experiential learning, workforce development, and online offerings.

Oversee statewide teaching, research, and extension programs, including coordination with UF/IFAS Research and Education Centers.

Administer human, fiscal, and physical resources with transparency and accountability, supporting strategic planning and assessment.

Champion shared governance, evaluate faculty and staff performance, and support mentorship.

Represent the department with IFAS, university administrators, and external partners at all levels.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Animal Sciences or a closely related discipline.

A distinguished record of scholarly achievement qualifying the candidate for tenure as a full professor.

Demonstrated administrative leadership and managerial skills in strategic planning, resource management, and team building.

Experience leading multidisciplinary, grant‑funded programs and generating extramural funds.

Strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student success, including recruitment and retention.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders.

Commitment to professional development for self, faculty, and staff.

Alignment with the mission and core values of a Land‑Grant university.

Commitment to UF core values.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working within large Land‑Grant systems and coordinating across campus units.

Experience in development/fundraising and cultivating alumni and stakeholder relations.

Salary Commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
