General Estimator is the fourth level in our Estimating track. This position is responsible for creating and managing estimates for residential, commercial and industrial lines of business. Tasks include meeting with clients, developing quality and competitive estimates using Xactimate, managing work through completion, reviewing budgets and communicating progress with clients and management. The role serves large loss insurance adjustors, brokers and commercial clients across a large regional area with some national clientele.
Responsibilities
Complete multi‑sketches with multi‑levels and/or roof sketches with accuracy.
Create accurate scopes, minimizing over/under scopes.
Produce accurate floor plans and multi‑level/roof sketches in Xactimate Sketch.
Maintain knowledge of applicable building codes.
Create and adhere to acceptable budgets, addressing overages as they arise.
Use the BELFOR naming convention for estimates, revised estimates, proposals and change orders.
Demonstrate knowledge of all local building codes.
Maintain a construction schedule and coordinate with trades and management to ensure timely completion.
Identify and present solutions when additional resources are needed.
Proficient with source removal, decontamination, mitigation, containment, ventilation, contents and deodorization techniques.
Proficient with investigative demolition, controlled demolition, decontamination, structure cleaning and deodorization services.
Participate in continued training with BELFOR University – Basic Xactimate training and prepare for Estimator Level 2 or 3 certification; score required for passing consideration is 85 %.
Independently manage own work.
Maintain vehicle safety, maintenance inspections and keep vehicles clean and serviceable.
Complete all accident, injury & incident reporting forms in a timely manner.
Strong analytical, quantitative and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Engage in continuing education to advance career in payroll and ensure compliance with up‑to‑date regulations.
Assist in developing and improving KPIs to position BELFOR USA Group, Inc as world‑class.
Comply with company and department policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
Requirements
Expand and maintain local area clientele to refer losses; focus on insurance adjusters and community business owners, schools and municipalities; book of business approximately $4 M–$8 M.
Serve as primary contact with owners, adjusters and consultants.
Accurately scope and estimate unique site‑specific conditions and requirements.
Develop scope, negotiate and agree on terms with customers.
Use BELFOR standard formatting for estimates.
Produce accurate estimates of all trades using line items in estimating programs.
Coordinate after‑hours emergency services: board‑ups, water damage, fire and smoke damage, vandalism.
Identify potential site hazards (asbestos, lead paint, mold, etc.).
Act professionally and with courtesy; promptly respond to information requests.
Exhibit strong customer‑service principles and practices; work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and protect property and information.
Attend BELFOR‑sponsored operations and safety training courses as required.
Qualifications
3+ years experience in construction, restoration or contents estimating.
Residential estimating experience above $50 000 and commercial estimating experience above $100 000.
Successful completion of BELFOR Estimating Platform Level 2 certification.
Completion of Advanced Xactimate training for Estimating Platform Level 3 with a score of 90 % or higher.
English literacy and fluency.
Understanding of MSDS data sheets and applicability to jobs.
Use BELFOR estimate format standards for Xactimate estimates and proposals.
Extensive customer‑service experience.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills; professional demeanor and appearance; excellent telephone skills.
Team‑work and professional interaction with co‑workers and vendors.
Physical Demands
Frequent lifting over 50 lbs unassisted.
Sitting for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for keyboarding and repetitive tasks.
Ability to bend, crouch, or stand as necessary.
