Job Description To provide support to the work done by the professional Anesthesia personnel through equipment, supply, operations, maintenance and support.

Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care Duties

Anesthetic gas machine set up : 6‑8W, 3 OB, 2 Endoscopy, 1 EP lab, 28 B‑level, 12 JSC. Includes daily system pre‑check, calibration of Draeger anesthetic machine, assembly of the anesthesia circuit and mask, and complete circuit check, ready for use by ACT.

Nitric oxide delivery system : Assemble special nitric oxide circuit delivery system and assist with usage as directed by ACT.

3D echocardiography (TEE) machines : Assemble probe and dental guard, power up machine, and assist with usage. Assist anesthesiologist with line isolation issues.

Airway management : Maintain equipment on the anesthesia cart for patients scheduled in the OR.

Cardiac rooms : Assemble and assist with triple‑channel pumps, cerebral oximetry, blood administration set, fluid warmers, pressure monitoring cables, and TEE.

Joint and Spine : Assemble TIVA infusion pumps, additional pulse oximetry, BIS monitors, arterial line placement, and assist ACT as directed.

Ultrasound equipment : Assemble probe cover, gel, and printing capability for line placement; assist ACT.

Video laryngoscopy equipment : Assemble and assist with usage.

Fiber optic equipment : Assemble and assist with usage.

Difficult airway patients : Assemble and assist with fiber optic, jet ventilation, video, specialty tubes, laser tubes, micro endotracheal tubes, intubating stylets, and LMAs.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) : Prepare equipment and carts with special anesthesia equipment for MH resuscitation.

Massive transfusion : Assemble disposable cassette, filter system, infusion tubing for rapid transfuser, and general blood administration tubing.

Emergency situations : BLS certified technicians assist with chest compressions, TEE, ultrasound, emergency line placement, intubations, MH resuscitation, lab draws, blood administration, and other duties.

Computer system : Address network and cabling issues before escalating to clinical engineering.

Bedside assistance : Assist ACT with patient transport, IV and pressure lines, ventilation tubing, infusion pumps, and oxygen circuits; open sterile supplies or trays.

Patient transport : Assist ACT in transferring patients to remote sites, set up equipment at new location while patient remains under anesthesia.

General support : Inspect, maintain, service, clean, assemble, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot all anesthesia equipment, including gas machines, carts, MH carts, fiber optic and video devices, ultrasound machines, infusion pumps, and laryngoscopy equipment.

Non‑Patient Care Duties

Daily documentation of activities assigned.

Document and report equipment maintenance or failure issues to the Head Anesthesia Technician or Clinical Engineering.

Adhere to biohazards, infection control, and standard precautions; maintain cleanliness and sterility of supplies and equipment.

Store and safely handle bulk, cylinder, and pipeline gases.

Adhere to fire, radiation, and electrical safety principles.

Requisition supplies as indicated.

Continue education on equipment care and usage.

Organize all materials and supplies used within the department.

Perform hospital‑wide sweeps for misplaced equipment.

Execute special projects requested by the Anesthesia Department director or ACT member.

Qualifications

Education : Successful high school graduate or GED; related technical or vocational training preferred.

Years of Experience : Preferred 2‑4 years in a hospital or related healthcare facility, especially OR experience.

Required Skills and Knowledge :

Knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and Joint Commission standards related to anesthesia, surgery, and infection control.

Knowledge of care and maintenance of technical equipment.

Excellent communication and organizational ability; some mechanical ability preferred.

BLS certification.

Licenses & Certifications

ASAII certification recommended within 3 years of employment.
