Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Relief Licensed Clinical Social Worker is the second and fully‑qualified, full‑proficiency level of professional social work for employees who are licensed by the State of California as Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW).

Positions at this level are characterized by substantial professional responsibility and independence of action for providing social work services.

Social Work Clinician (SWC) Social Work Clinician is the entry, developmental, and first working level of professional social work for employees who are recent graduates or who have professional social work experience but are not yet licensed as LCSWs by the State of California.

The Social Work Job Family consists of three levels of professional non‑management social work in physical healthcare: Social Work Clinician, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Advanced Clinical Social Worker.

All positions require a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work.

As a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, medical social workers provide psychosocial interventions to patients and families across the hospital, addressing biopsychosocial issues and developing treatment plans.

Essential Functions – Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Makes mental health diagnoses as part of a treatment plan as needed.

Provides individual/group clinical supervision to MSWs and student interns.

Prepares and maintains electronic medical records and provides written and oral reports and hand‑offs.

Conducts psychosocial assessment of patients/families upon admission and as clinically indicated.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams to develop and implement patient/family psychosocial treatment plans, coordinating referrals and recording progress notes.

Helps patients/families cope with environmental and psychological issues of illness.

Manages independently assigned caseload of varying clinical acuity.

Engages in case finding for patients/families with potential psychosocial needs and attends team conferences and interdisciplinary rounds.

Provides supportive counseling, grief counseling, crisis intervention, and other therapeutic services.

Provides psychoeducation to patients and families regarding adaptation to diagnosis and treatment.

Participates in quality assurance and community improvement related to social work services, contributing to policy development.

Provides psychoeducation about diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis and assists transition to adult services.

Participates in quality assurance and community improvement, contributing to policy development.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities and possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Education:

Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification:

Valid California LCSW license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Social Work Clinician Education:

Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university; successful completion of the Master’s program before state licensing date.

Preferred Skills:

Pediatric social work experience; healthcare experience.

Knowledge

Ability to apply theories, principles, and practices of medical social work in a hospital setting.

Ability to gather data needed to assess needs of patients and families.

Ability to manage a caseload, maintain confidentiality, and handle emergencies.

Ability to provide written case narratives and reports.

Knowledge of effective assessment, interviewing, and counseling techniques.

Knowledge of hospital and medical center resources for patient care needs.

Knowledge of patient and family behavior in the hospital context.

Additional Information Positions are allocated to one of the three grade levels in this job family.

Vacant positions may be filled at any of the three class/grade levels, and employees may be promoted when they meet minimum qualifications and receive management recommendation.

Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salaries within our ranges may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and internal equity.

SWC: Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $53.32 to $59.67

LCSW: Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $55.94 to $62.60
