Apply for the role of Attorney II – Early Resolution – Public Defense Services at Pima County Government. The position is Unclassified, with a salary range of $94,494–$179,524 per year (Grade A3). It is open until filled.
You will represent a higher volume of low‑level felony cases pending plea agreements, sentencing, or transfer to a trial team. The role does not involve trial litigation. You will collaborate with paralegals, secretaries, social workers, and investigators to advocate for client outcomes through strategic litigation, negotiation, and mitigation.
Essential Functions
Prosecute or defend complex criminal or civil cases in State and Federal courts.
Manage demanding cases or caseloads requiring specialized experience.
Represent County departments, boards, and commissions in civil litigation and administrative matters.
Prepare ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and leases for county officials.
Draft legal opinions and advise officials on legal matters.
Engage in negotiations for compromise and settlement of cases, complying with Victim Rights statutes.
Participate in pretrial, trial, post‑trial, and appellate practice as needed.
Prepare litigation, perform witness deposition, provide witness notification, and conduct bench and jury trials.
Develop, refine, and present legal strategies; review legal documents; evaluate legal issues; negotiate agreements.
Research and provide consultation on complex legal issues.
Draft legal motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
Qualifications This classification is unclassified and exempt from Pima County Merit System Rules. Applicants should have advanced legal knowledge, skills, and experience in public defense, with a strong record of representing indigent clients. Prior experience in early resolution or similar work is preferred. A professional law degree and active admission to practice law are required.
The first review of applications will occur on 11/28/2025. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate resourcefulness, skill, and knowledge above that of lower‑level attorneys, as well as the ability to work independently and exercise professional discretion.
