Description UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, recognized for excellence in nursing. This position is part of a dynamic team in General Endocrinology, Diabetes, Osteoporosis and Thyroid disease care. The LVN works under the direction of a registered nurse and the Practice Manager, providing patient care in clinic ambulatory activities.

Responsibilities

Prioritize and assist in patient triage processing

Prepare and assist with patient procedures

Administer medications

Conduct point‑of‑care testing

Perform health maintenance screening

Collect and prepare laboratory tests

Provide patient education on conditions and therapies

Assist with insulin pump usage, insulin administration (vials, syringes, pens), glucose meters, remote monitoring, continuous glucose monitors

Perform thyroid FNA biopsy

Support bone health assessments during nurse visits; monitor vital signs, track bone density and fall risk factors, educate on osteoporosis management

Assist nurse visits for follow‑up between MD visits, ensuring proper medication administration and access

Help patients with diabetes and thyroid conditions by monitoring blood glucose levels, supporting medication education and administration, reinforcing dietary and lifestyle guidance

Track medication adherence and lab results for thyroid patients to maintain therapeutic targets

Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and clinic RN to coordinate follow‑up care between provider visits

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) issued by the state of California.

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire date.

Previous recent LVN experience.

Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.

Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and ability to communicate clearly and effectively (written and oral) to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with General Endocrinology, Diabetes, Osteoporosis and Thyroid disease populations in an ambulatory setting.

Pay Transparency Annual Full Pay Range: $74,980 - $93,229 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).

Hourly Equivalent: $35.91 - $44.65.
