Engineering Assistant 3 – Southcoast Region Construction, Juneau
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT & PF), Southcoast Region Construction is seeking an Engineering Assistant 3 for construction contract administration. The role functions as a Project Engineer responsible for inspecting, accepting, and paying for work on active construction projects of average to above average complexity.

The Working Environment You Can Expect This position is located in Juneau and reports to the Southcoast Region 7‑mile office. Work is performed at various sites—including remote and urban locations—during active construction. The role requires reading and interpreting design plans, developing engineering solutions, and documenting work, all while operating in rugged terrain and extreme weather.

Required Qualifications Applicants must meet at least one of the following pathways:
ABET Pathway:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from an ABET‑accredited institution; plus two years of engineering/architectural/land‑surveying experience, with at least one year at the working or intermediate trainee level, including experience as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska.
EIT Pathway:
Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering from a non‑ABET institution; an Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certificate or FE exam pass; and two years of engineering/architectural/land‑surveying experience, meeting the same work‑level requirement.
Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET‑accredited post‑secondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (or equivalently, experience can substitute). Graduate study in engineering or architecture may also substitute for required experience.
