Summary:
Our client is seeking a
Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst . This role is responsible for analyzing and supporting payroll tax activities across multiple systems and jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations. You’ll partner with leadership to streamline processes, support audits, and mentor newer team members while ensuring payroll tax accuracy across 6 payroll systems and 15 FEINs.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with payroll tax laws across U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada
Respond to employee and agency inquiries regarding payroll tax matters
Research and implement new payroll tax regulations, providing compliance recommendations
Perform reconciliations and analyze large datasets to identify and resolve variances
Prepare and assign tax payments, ensuring timely filings with IRS and state jurisdictions
Oversee quarterly/annual returns (941, 940, W2, W2c, T4) and transmissions to agencies
Conduct audits to ensure accuracy across multiple payroll systems
Partner with leadership to improve, streamline, and document payroll tax processes
Investigate and resolve tax notices promptly to minimize risk of penalties
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in related field + 5 years of high-volume payroll tax experience (or equivalent)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (queries, indexing, importing/exporting large datasets)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills
Experience with multi-unit, multi-state, and international payroll tax compliance
Proficiency in MasterTax, SharePoint, SQL, and other payroll/tax software a plus
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams
Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently under tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with acquisitions, mergers, and multi-system payroll environments
Knowledge of SOX, audit, or data governance controls
Familiarity with Canadian and Puerto Rican payroll tax requirements
Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, or UKG
