Job Summary The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role as the primary scrub technologist during procedures, preparing, organizing and managing surgical instruments, supplies and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations. This individual maintains strict adherence to sterile techniques and continuously preserves the integrity of the sterile field throughout each procedure.

Responsibilities

Maintain a minimum of 15 Continuing Medical Education hours annually.

Prepare and check instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.

Set up and maintain a sterile field, following strict aseptic techniques.

Assist with patient draping and ensure the surgical team is properly attired.

Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.

Perform accurate sponge and sharp counts with the circulating nurse.

Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.

Support specialty surgical services and stock OR rooms as needed.

Prepare sterile dressings and assist with post‑operative care.

Help orient new staff and contribute to unit goals and objectives.

May handle medications, sharps and syringes on the sterile field.

Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Completed a military surgical technology program.

Graduated from a CAAHEP‑ or ABHES‑accredited Surgical Technology program and obtained certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 12 months of graduation.

Graduated from an accredited school of practical nursing.

Qualify under the “Grandfathering Clause” by providing proof of at least one year of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility between December 31 2010 and December 31 2014.

Qualify under the “Hard‑to‑Fill Clause” by graduating from an accredited program and obtaining certification through a nationally accredited credentialing organization within 24 months of hire.

New Graduate Requirements

Official transcript from an accredited school or a letter emailed directly from the school’s registrar confirming program completion will be accepted upon graduation.

Primary source education verification required within 90 days of start date.

Required Licensure & Certification

Certified Surgical Technologist certification through a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization and a degree from an accredited program in Surgical Technology.

Certified Surgical Technologist Certification is not required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with current licensure in the State of New York.

Physical Requirements Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, with frequent walking, standing or squatting.

Pay Range $27.50 – $33.50 per hour.
