RN Director of Quality & Risk - West Virginia
Salary Range: $111,000 - $150,000 Relocation Assistance & Sign-On Bonus Available 300-bed acute care facility
I'm partnering with a regional healthcare system to identify an experienced Quality & Risk Director to lead all initiatives related to Quality/Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Patient Safety, Medical Staff Services, and Regulatory/Accreditation compliance. This is a key strategic leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as both the Patient Safety Officer and the Ethics & Compliance Officer.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, physicians, and clinical teams to elevate outcomes, strengthen processes, and foster a culture of safety and accountability across the organization.
Position Overview The Director will oversee all activities within Quality/PI, Risk Management, and the Medical Staff Office, ensuring strong operational performance, regulatory readiness, and adherence to compliance standards. This leader will guide the implementation of system goals and strategies, drive clinical excellence, and collaborate cross-functionally to promote optimal patient experiences and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Quality & Patient Safety
Lead and advance the organizations performance improvement, patient safety, and regulatory/accreditation programs.
Oversee compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and state regulatory requirements.
Direct Quality, Risk, and Medical Staff Office operations within established financial goals.
Coordinate Core Measures activities and provide ongoing Six Sigma and PI education.
Risk Management
Conduct comprehensive clinical risk assessments and support corrective action planning.
Oversee investigations related to incidents and potential liability claims.
Develop and maintain risk-related policies, procedures, and organization-wide education.
Guide data analysis plans and provide expertise on changing regulations and liability trends.
Work closely with external partners on patient safety organization (PSO) compliance.
Create provider quality report cards and participate in committee structure development.
Regulatory Compliance
Serve as the primary liaison for federal and state regulatory and accreditation bodies.
Ensure the facility remains survey-ready and maintains compliance with all standards.
Organize and implement facility-wide regulatory programs and ongoing education.
Ethics & Compliance
Chair the Facility Ethics & Compliance Committee.
Lead investigations, encourage transparent reporting, and support non-retaliatory culture.
Manage monitoring and auditing activities and identify compliance-related trends.
Interface with corporate departments and leadership to ensure alignment with system standards.
Requirements
Active West Virginia RN license required
Bachelors degree in Nursing required
Previous Quality leadership experience required
Minimum of 5 years of acute care RN experience
Preferred
CPHRM and CPPS certifications ideal; required within 2 years
