Knowesis, Inc. is seeking a mission-driven Network Engineer to support the DoD OIG’s Office of the CIO. This role is critical to maintaining secure, resilient, and high-performing network infrastructure across classified and unclassified environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to supporting federal oversight operations through robust IT capabilities.
To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position’s security clearance requirements.
The DoD OIG mission is to detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse in DoD programs and operations; promote the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of the DoD; and help ensure ethical conduct throughout the DoD. The DoD OIG keeps the Secretary of Defense and the Congress informed of fraud, waste, abuse, and program deficiencies identified through its oversight work. The DoD OIG’s administrative and criminal investigators, auditors, evaluators, and support staff operate globally, conducting investigations, audits, evaluations, and mission support activities to accomplish the DoD OIG’s mission. The DoD OIG, OCIO is responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, and supporting all DoD OIG Information Technology (IT) systems and communication capabilities for approximately 2000 end users and over 60 locations around the globe. Due to the independence of the DoD OIG, the OCIO provides the full spectrum of IT services necessary to support the OIG mission including database support, storage management, transition management, application services, mobile device management, IT asset management, domain services, network transport, and service desk.
The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures in accordance with DoD and NIST standards
Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs across multiple enclaves
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure continuous availability
Support RMF documentation, system accreditation, and compliance with DISA STIGs
Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, and application teams to ensure secure data flow
Maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration baselines, and change control records
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to support mission needs
Provide Tier III support and mentorship to junior engineers and help desk staff
Participate in continuity of operations (COOP) planning and execution
Prepare Data Network design, engineering, and security plans and schedules to support new and enhanced Applications, architectures, and standards
Develop testing and integration procedures for Data Network design, engineering and security that meet requirements and adhere to defined policies
Coordinate with the DoD OIG’s Service Recipients, and public carriers, as required
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in computer science, information systems, information technology, engineering, telecommunications, or related technical field.
Minimum 10 years’ IT experience with at least 7 years’ experience with enterprise network design, implementation, and management.
Minimum 5 years’ experience managing complex WAN/LAN environments supporting 1,000 users across multiple geographic locations
Minimum 3 years’ experience with VPN services to include provisioning, monitoring, and the management of site-to-site VPN connectivity and remote user access solutions
Minimum 3 years’ experience with hybrid network environments integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud network services, and experience with network capacity planning, performance monitoring, and threshold management for enterprise-scale networks
Proficiency in routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
Experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, and Juniper platforms
Familiarity with cloud networking (Azure Government, AWS GovCloud) and virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V)
Strong understanding of RMF, NIST 800‑53, and DISA STIGs
Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
Clear, tactful communication across technical and non‑technical audiences
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced federal environment
Commitment to mission integrity and operational excellence
Experience supporting classified networks and working in secure facilities
Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II Certification
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Certification
Routing and Switching Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field
Information Technology Information Library (ITIL) v3 or later
Cloud Network Certifications relevant to hybrid environments such as (Azure Network Engineer Associate, AWS Advanced Networking, or equivalent)
