About the Role We are looking for a Design Director, Digital Experience to build and lead our design practice in New York—someone who is equally excited about crafting world‑class digital experiences and shaping the team that brings them to life.
This role sits at the center of our growing CX hub within GUT, partnering closely with Strategy, Experience Design, Demand Gen, Technology, and Creative. You will elevate our digital craft, push innovation across platforms, and deliver experiences that are intelligent, human, beautifully designed, and grounded in real business impact.
You are both a leader and a maker: ready to mentor designers, define standards, and roll up your sleeves to design product‑level experiences when needed.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Building
Build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing Digital Experience Design team (product designers, UX/UI designers, interaction designers, visual designers).
Establish a culture of craft excellence, experimentation, and collaboration across the CX hub and broader GUT network.
Define design principles, operational frameworks, and quality standards as the team scales.
Partner with senior leadership to shape the future of GUT’s Experience Design offering.
Digital Experience Design
Lead the conception and creation of digital products, platforms, and ecosystems—from discovery to delivery.
Create and guide UX architecture, user flows, prototypes, UI systems, digital brand language, interaction models, and product‑level visual design.
Champion user‑centered design methods and translate insights into elegant, intuitive, and scalable solutions.
Ensure designs meet accessibility, performance, and platform best practices.
Hands‑On Craft
Jump in as a hands‑on designer when needed—concepting, designing, prototyping, and iterating with the team.
Set the bar for digital craft by demonstrating excellence in UX/UI and interaction design.
Work closely with Strategy, Technology, and Program Management to define scope, roadmaps, and delivery approaches.
Serve as a trusted partner to clients—leading workshops, presenting work, and communicating design rationale clearly and convincingly.
Collaborate with Creative Directors and cross‑discipline leads to ensure brand and product experiences feel cohesive and intentional.
Operational Excellence
Help shape staffing plans, recruiting profiles, freelancer rosters, and team processes.
Support proposals, estimates, and SOW development as needed.
Implement best‑in‑class tools and workflows for design collaboration, componentization, and governance (e.g., Figma, FigJam, design systems, prototyping tools).
What We’re Looking For Experience
Must have strong agency experience delivering digital platforms, product ecosystems, or large‑scale experience design programs for multiple clients.
Demonstrated successful work in fast‑paced, multidisciplinary teams within creative/digital/experience agencies.
Proven ability to lead projects, guide designers, and own client‑facing work (formal management title not required).
Skills & Craft
Mastery of end‑to‑end digital design (UX, UI, interaction, systems, prototyping).
Strong visual design sensibility with an eye for detail, clarity, and craft.
Confidence facilitating workshops, presenting to executives, and owning client relationships.
Ability to switch between vision and hands‑on creation seamlessly.
Fluency with modern design tools: Figma, FigJam, prototyping tools, motion tools (plus).
Qualities
Builder mentality—excited to shape culture, tools, processes, and team identity.
Strategic and collaborative, but also scrappy and willing to roll up your sleeves.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity while providing clarity and direction.
