Sr. CAE Analysis Engineer, Energy Products
role at
Tesla
What to Expect Our charter is to design robust and reliable electronics enclosures to enable the successful deployment and operation of Tesla’s utility‑scale storage and Supercharging products. We work in a space crowded with regulatory requirements where competitors and suppliers are often invested in the status quo. Our team’s job is to ignore the status quo, challenge rules where appropriate, and implement fundamentals‑only engineering to make the absolute best products possible.
As an Analysis Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and manufacturing of next‑generation Tesla Energy products. You will analyze and optimize revolutionary products never before executed. You will excel both technically as an individual and as an active member in a diverse and challenging cross‑functional team environment. You will work with Industrial Enclosure & Battery Engineering teams to analyze the performance of current and future designs, and you will work with Test Engineering teams to develop tests, correlate simulation models, and improve the predictive capability of Analysis Engineering at Tesla.
What You’ll Do
Build state‑of‑the‑art finite element (FE) models for analysis and optimization of revolutionary battery energy storage systems in collaboration with a small team of multidisciplinary engineers
Challenge established traditional CAE methods and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy
Use CAE tools to optimize performance for enclosures, closures, joints, and other subsystems; correlate CAE simulations to test results
Use correlated simulations and work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to progress the designs; where appropriate, conduct studies by utilizing optimization tools, including DOE techniques on designs, to meet performance requirements with the constraints of conflicting attributes like cost and mass
Support world‑class engineering teams with design direction based on your analyses
Perform analysis for feasibility in manufacturing, assembly, and service processes
Quickly learn the tools necessary to execute tasks and modify or create new tools as necessary
What You’ll Bring
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5+ years of related experience
Strong foundation in applied engineering mechanics, computational mechanics, materials science, and finite element theory and applications
Expertise in building high‑fidelity FE models at component, subsystem, and full‑system levels
Demonstrated ability to guide structural, thermal, and safety mechanism designs through CAE, from concept to mass production, across industrial products at scale, while root‑causing and resolving correlation issues
Proficiency in linear and nonlinear static, dynamic, and modal simulations; experience developing multiphysics simulation workflows (e.g., thermal‑mechanical, mechanical‑electrical)
Advanced knowledge in material characterization and modeling, including nonlinear elasticity, viscoelasticity, creep, and strain‑rate‑dependent plasticity in metals, plastics, polymers, and adhesives
Advanced proficiency in CAE tools such as ANSYS, HyperWorks, Beta CAE, LS‑DYNA, Abaqus, and COMSOL
Basic proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; CATIA V5/V6 experience is a plus
Demonstrated ability in iterative and collaborative engineering environments—success in roles requiring high levels of technical communication and interpretation of analytical results to design engineers and technical leadership
Benefits
Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction
Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits
Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution
Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA
Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits
Company paid Basic Life, AD&DD, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance
Employee Assistance Program
Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays
Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources
Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance
Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs
