Position Overview
Environmental Biomolecular Engineer (Research Technician) – Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, Stanford, CA. This one‑year fixed‑term position involves project work at Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA, with regional and international travel (including a multi‑week period in Palau).
Job Responsibilities
Conduct a landscape assessment of available technologies and miniaturization prospects.
Design a waterproof chemical handling flow‑through system.
Test and optimize technologies for high‑performance flow‑through system.
Perform seawater eDNA extractions, PCR, and sequencing library preparation.
Conduct Oxford Nanopore Sequencing.
Analyze resulting data.
Contribute to communicating results and expanding stakeholder partnerships.
Assist in sample processing, sequencing, and validation tests.
Support team‑based problem‑solving in an interdisciplinary research environment.
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
General understanding of scientific principles; demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve work problems.
Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
General computer skills and adaptability to new scientific applications.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills; accurate completion of detailed work.
Preferred Qualifications
Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and initiates projects.
Strong communication, molecular, and computational skills.
Organized; delivers work products on time.
Ability to work independently and within a 20‑person team, reporting progress and challenges.
Basic knowledge of ecology and genomics.
Applied experience with Illumina and Oxford Nanopore sequencing platforms.
Background in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, and/or molecular technologies.

Compensation Expected pay range: $32.58 – $38.48 per hour.
