The Department of Classics and Religious Studies at UMass Boston invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position to join our faculty beginning September 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
Teach graduate‑level and undergraduate courses in Classics and Religious Studies, with an emphasis on spoken ancient Greek or Latin and Second Language Acquisition (SLA).
Engage in outreach to schools and oversee teaching practica.
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching in the College of Liberal Arts in Second Language Acquisition, collaborating with departments such as Latin American and Iberian Studies, Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and Applied Linguistics.
Publish research that complements current faculty work and fosters collaboration across departments, including potential cross‑listing of courses and work in digital humanities and large language models applied to Classical languages, pedagogies, and literatures.
Qualifications
PhD in Classics or a related field.
Demonstrable interest in spoken ancient Greek or Latin and SLA.
Ability to design and implement effective pedagogical strategies for ancient languages.
Experience or commitment to outreach and teaching practica.
Strong research record with potential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
