Position Overview

Highly responsible administrative and supervisory work in directing one or more phases of the parkways maintenance program; and related work as required. Primary Responsibilities

Administrative and supervisory duties overseeing parkways maintenance operations. Qualifications

Permanent status as a Parkways Maintenance Section Assistant (formerly titled Parkways Maintenance Supervisor IV). Two (2) years of experience as Parkways Maintenance Section Assistant, Parkways Maintenance Supervisor IV, or any combination thereof. Eight (8) years of full‑time supervisory experience in tree maintenance and surgery, maintenance of large turf areas using a variety of grass mowing equipment, or in the propagation and maintenance of a large variety of plant life. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Forestry Park Management, Agronomy, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Botany, Plant Science, Floriculture or closely related field may be substituted for five (5) years of the required experience. Candidates for Forestry positions must also possess a current Louisiana Arborist license. Certification and Documentation

Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and licensure claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full‑time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013 must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire. Airport and public safety employees are excluded from this provision. Additional exceptions may be made on a case‑by‑case basis. Background Check and Other Requirements

The hiring department will conduct interviews of qualified individuals prior to requesting a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history. Criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate. Application Process

Working test period: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year. Substance abuse testing and medical examination requirements are specified in Civil Service Rule V, Section 9. Good moral character is required of all applicants. Applicants who are licensed to drive should have a current license on their person for purposes of identification during all phases of an examination. Veterans preference is available for original entrance examinations. Minimum high school diploma requirements are specified. Accredited colleges and universities are defined, and foreign qualifications may be accepted with equivalency statements.
