Position Overview The Security Monitor provides overall facility monitoring and surveillance through regular facility rounds, maintains logs of persons entering and exiting the property, conducts fire drills, and maintains log books on fire drills and emergency apparatus. The security staff documents accounts of residents’ non‑compliance with curfews and other rules and regulations.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

Maintain a log of visitors entering and exiting the premises and record all unusual incidents per established procedures, while ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors enter the property.

Surveillance of the grounds, facility and activities of the residents to prevent theft and resident harm.

Ensure that all doors from the facility are locked and secured.

Monitor fire and safety procedures.

Provide administrative support in the area of office coverage, telephone and clerical work.

Perform light maintenance responsibilities in the absence of maintenance staff.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Function independently in terms of facility coverage, including responsibility for appropriate action in a crisis situation per agency procedures.

Meet with Security Supervisor for individual and group supervision and training.

Assist with delivery of supplies and furniture.

Participate in monthly staff meetings and training seminars conducted to enhance and develop one’s skills.

Specifications for Education/Certifications/Licenses

High School Diploma with at least 1 year of experience in a residential shelter.

Required Skills And Experience

Three years experience as a security monitor.

Need to understand the issues of homeless families.

Experience working in a 24‑hour residential facility, able to work with minimum supervision and as a team player.

Valid NY State Registration as a Security Guard.

Must have ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.

Excellent written and verbal skills are required.

Must be computer‑literate and have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Bilingual Spanish preferred.
