Distinguished Engineer - Networking
GEICO is looking for an experienced Distinguished Engineer in Network Engineering to design, architect, and implement complex network solutions that accelerate product delivery and improve developer experience. You will lead a technical roadmap, drive performance improvements, and mentor cross‑functional teams.
Base Pay Range $140,000.00 – $300,000.00 per year
Responsibilities
Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of complex network solutions to meet business requirements.
Develop and maintain network standards, policies, and best practices for consistency, reliability, and security.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and implement innovative network technologies that drive operational efficiency and business value.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend strategic investments and enhancements.
Drive initiatives to improve network performance, scalability, and reliability through optimization, automation, and proactive monitoring.
Serve as a subject‑matter expert and escalation point for complex network issues, providing guidance and expertise to resolve critical incidents.
Represent the network engineering team in meetings, presentations, and discussions with senior leadership, stakeholders, and vendors.
Mentor and coach engineering and product teams, strengthening technical expertise across the organization.
Influence executives and share best practices to improve processes within and across teams.
Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, and measure outcomes to ensure desired results.
Participate in on‑call rotation for after‑hours support and maintenance activities.
Qualifications
Exemplary design and development skills with the ability to influence engineering direction and roadmap.
Expert knowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and standards (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS, SDN, SD‑WAN).
Extensive hands‑on experience with network equipment and platforms from Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto Networks, etc.
Strong understanding of network security principles, best practices, and compliance requirements.
Proven leadership and mentorship skills, inspiring cross‑functional teams and driving consensus on technical decisions.
Highly proficient in architecture assessment and proposal development.
Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.
Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
Experience
12+ years of professional experience in Network Engineering.
10+ years of experience with architecture and design.
6+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks.
6+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
