Maryville Academy’s St. Catherine of Siena program provides care and support to medically fragile youth. This is an amazing opportunity to gain experience in the nonprofit space while developing your skills and advancing your career as a Youth Care Specialist. The position requires a valid Illinois driver’s license, a high school diploma or higher, and over 21 years of age. Compensation is $22.00 or $24.00 per hour depending on degree, with overtime eligibility. The role is full‑time with benefits including medical, dental, vision, and a 403(b) plan.
Responsibilities
Teach and guide youth, implementing individualized treatment plans or specialized strategies.
Assist with management of the living environment, promoting desirable behavior patterns in a safe and nurturing environment.
Provide individual and group instruction in social living skills, independent living skills, vocational and job‑related skills, anger management, hygiene, academic and study skills, and recreation activities.
Document Medicaid services, complete incident reports, and complete unusual incident reports.
Participate in individual and treatment team meetings, providing information that informs decisions about client care.
Assist youth with processing events and emotions confidentially.
Implement Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) techniques when required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, guidance rehabilitation counseling, social work, education, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy or related human service field.
OR bachelor’s degree in any other field with two years of experience in a mental‑health or recovery setting.
OR high school diploma or GED with five years of experience in a mental‑health or recovery setting.
Valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to drive a passenger van.
Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility for evening and weekend shifts.
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, drive, lift, and restrain youth when necessary.
Willingness to work with youth who may be hostile, dangerous, or under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly wage: $22.00 or $24.00 (depending on degree).
Eligible for overtime.
Full‑time benefits: medical, dental, vision, 403(b).
Paid vacation, sick days, and 9 paid holidays per year.
Long‑term disability and life insurance after one year of service.
