Principal NDT Engineer – Sunnyvale, CA Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for a Principal NDT Engineer. The NDT team works daily on advanced products at the Maritime/Land Systems & Sensors Division.

Clearance type: Secret.

Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

What You Will Do

Set-up and conduct non‑destructive tests using Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, Ultrasonic and Radiographic methods to determine acceptability.

Establish testing procedures and methods, including shooting sketches.

Monitor manufacturing processes, conduct tests and inspections to assure compliance.

Weld visual inspection experience required.

Train and certify Level II NDT Inspectors.

May specialize in design, product evaluation, metrology or research & development as they apply to product or process quality.

Some travel may be required.

Basic Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant manufacturing experience; OR a high school diploma/GED and 9 or more years of relevant manufacturing experience.

Experience with complex part geometry welding inspection, machining processes, interpreting product specifications, customer purchase orders and military specifications for quality planning and management purposes.

Experience reading mechanical drawings.

Experience navigating and administering production work orders and processing nonconforming material in an ERP environment.

Experience conducting manufacturing process failure analyses and corrective action investigations.

Experience working as a contributing member of an integrated manufacturing team.

Non‑Destructive Test experience.

Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in multiple NDI disciplines (UT, MT, PT, visual, dimensional, load tests, etc.).

2‑year degree/certification from an NDI training institution.

VT, PT, MT, UT, RT Level III certification preferred.

The Ideal Candidate

Must be able to pass an eye exam to start.

Will be able to work in environments that could cause phobias due to height or close spaces.

Must be willing to work any shift, overtime, or non‑standard work schedule.

Salary Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 – $155,400.00 (base pay). Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for VP or Director positions.
