Job Summary The Field Service Engineer (FSE) will provide routine to complex field service support for customer sites predominantly within Northern California and the greater San Francisco Bay area. Responsibilities include maintenance, verification, validation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting operational issues. The position requires residency in the Greater San Francisco or San Jose area and a driving distance of 1 hour or less from either SFO or SJC International Airports. Occasionally, field service support may be required for customers in Canada and the U.S.

The candidate should possess a scientific approach to operating, maintaining, and repairing analytical instrumentation, be proficient with daily and weekly administrative duties, and demonstrate strong customer focus and communication skills. Prior experience in a technical field-support role, customer support, and ultra‑pure water applications is essential.
Duties & Responsibilities
Travel to customer sites and perform preventive maintenance and related services on TOC equipment.
Plan, schedule, and confirm customer services, including coordination of travel and parts shipments.
Maintain administrative duties, parts inventory, and relevant training records.
Take customer calls, participate in territory sales rhythm calls, and service team meetings.
Respond to on‑demand contract services with 3‑ or 7‑business‑day response commitments for troubleshooting and repair.
Write clear and concise reports for customers.
Complete special projects and new‑hire training as assigned by supervisors.
Collaborate closely with Sales to identify new instrument and service opportunities and upsell service and consumables at existing customer sites.
Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, including vehicle operation and Veolia Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
Domestic travel up to 70% of the time.
Qualifications
Strong technical, mathematical, and customer‑service skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple instruments and administrative duties.
Proficient troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, able to use processes to find root cause.
General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry, and safety.
Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to service instruments and handle electrical equipment.
Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and basic network/database knowledge.
Ability to use ordinary hand tools, calibrated tools, and analytical instrumentation; capable of handling chemically aggressive fluids such as acids and bases.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Self‑motivated with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
Proven ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, clients, and other employees.
Ability to meet deadlines and commitments.
Ability to communicate effectively and contribute within a commercial team environment.
Ability to make sound business decisions based on risk‑reward analysis and business objectives.
Education & Experience Required:
Associate degree in a science, technical, or engineering discipline; or equivalent education.
At least 3 years of work experience in ultra‑pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, engineering, or physics; or equivalent education.
At least 1 year of work experience in ultra‑pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment.
Working Conditions
Flexible schedule based on customer needs.
Drive a motor vehicle; significant time driving to customer sites.
Air travel required for support of other areas.
Travel to customer sites requiring overnight stays approximately 30‑60% of the time, with short notice as needed.
Use of laptop and mobile systems.
Work around machines, electrical equipment, chemicals, and industrial facilities.
Work at various customer sites, including outdoor industrial installations, clean rooms, and laboratory environments requiring clean suits or smocks.
Perform manual tasks requiring dexterity, handling small parts, and repair procedures.
Reach with hands and arms, below and above shoulder height.
Stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required.
Work in environments with background noise.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Maintain good vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Additional Information
Compensation – Salary range is USD $34–$38 hourly; offers may be higher or lower based on knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
