Field Service Engineer (Analytical Instruments) Field Service Engineer (FSE) will provide routine to complex field service support for customer sites primarily within Northern California and the greater San Francisco Bay area.

Support includes maintenance, verification, validation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting operational issues.

This position requires residency in the Greater San Francisco or San Jose area and a 1‑hour drive to either SFO or SJC.

Occasional support may be required in Canada and the U.S.

Key Characteristics Self‑directed, detail‑oriented, works independently, and manages planning, scheduling, and confirmation of services while balancing priorities. Proficient in scientific approach to operation, maintenance, and repair of analytical instrumentation, with strong customer focus and clear communication.

Duties & Responsibilities

Travel to customer sites and perform PM and related services on TOC equipment

Plan, schedule and confirm customer services including coordination of travel and parts shipments

Maintain admin duties, parts inventory, and relevant trainings

Take customer calls, participate in territory sales rhythm calls, and service team meetings

Respond to on‑demand contract services with 3 or 7 business‑day response commitments for troubleshooting and repair

Write clear and concise reports for customers

Special projects and new hire training as assigned by supervisors

Work closely with Sales to provide insight into new instruments and new service opportunities and upsell service and consumables at existing customer sites

Ensure compliance with all safety and EHS policies, including operation of an assigned company vehicle

Domestic travel: 70%

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong technical, mathematical, and customer service skills

Ability to prioritize multiple instruments and administrative duties

Troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with root‑cause analysis

General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry, and safety

Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to service instruments and handle electrical equipment

Computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, basic network and database knowledge)

Ability to use ordinary hand tools, calibrated tools, and analytical instrumentation while handling chemically aggressive fluids

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Self‑motivated, drives projects to completion with minimal oversight

Experience speaking before groups and customers

Ability to meet deadlines and commitments

Business decision‑making based on risk–reward analysis

Education & Experience

Required

Associate degree in a Science, Technical, or Engineering discipline; or equivalent education

At least 3 years of work experience in ultra‑pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment

Preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or Physics; or equivalent education

At least 1 year of work experience in ultra‑pure water applications or servicing and/or operating analytical instrumentation in a lab environment

Working Conditions

Flexible schedule based on customer needs

Drive a motor vehicle; significant time daily traveling to customer sites

Air travel required to reach customer destinations and support other areas

Travel to customer sites requiring overnight stays approximately 30–60% of the time, with short notice as required

Use of laptop and mobile systems

Work around machines, electrical equipment, chemicals, and within industrial facilities

Work at outdoor industrial installations, clean rooms, and laboratory environments requiring clean suits or smocks

Manual dexterity during tool use, handling small parts, and repair procedures

Reach with hands and arms, below and above shoulder height

Stand, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Work in industrial environments with background noise

Lift and or move up to 30 lbs. frequently up to 50 lbs. when required

Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Maintain driver’s license and a good driving record
