Job Description AECOM Tishman has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Construction Estimator for our Boston offices.
The Senior Estimator will work with our team in the preparation of accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for our construction projects and play a pivotal role in the pre‑construction phase, ensuring all projects are bid competitively and accurately budgeted to support project profitability and success. This role involves analyzing project documents, managing the bidding process, and collaborating closely with project managers, architects, and subcontractors.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Conduct thorough analysis of drawings, specifications, and other project documentation to determine the full scope of work and identify potential risks or cost‑saving opportunities.
Review subcontractor and supplier bids using “Building Connected” software.
Negotiate pricing and scopes of work to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements, resolve discrepancies, and present detailed estimates and proposals.
Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of unit costs, labor rates, and historical project data to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.
Assess potential risk factors that could impact project costs or timelines, developing mitigation strategies and advising management.
Attend pre‑bid meetings and conduct on‑site visits to gather additional data and insights relevant to the project conditions and constraints.
Propose cost‑effective alternatives and value engineering solutions without compromising project quality.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
BA/BA Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, and 8 years of relevant commercial construction estimating experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in construction estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Building Connected, On‑Screen Takeoff) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
In‑depth understanding of construction methods, materials, industry standards, and local building codes and regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing proposals, reports, and presentations, and for effective negotiation.
Strong ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and advanced estimating techniques.
Construction estimating experience in:
Healthcare/Life Sciences
High Rise
Higher Education
Excellent ability to explain complex cost estimates and proposals clearly to clients, management, and project teams, defending assumptions and methodologies.
MEP/FP estimating experience.
