R&D Principal Scientist – M2 Ingredients
Hybrid position located in Vista, CA. Employment is onsite, minimum 3 days per week. This role does not sponsor visas.
Base pay range: $120,000 – $140,000 per year. Eligible for annual bonus.
Position Summary The R&D Principal Scientist will lead projects to develop and optimize testing methods, improve ingredient potency and bioavailability, and support the launch of new ingredients with quality and regulatory compliance.
Position Responsibilities
Collaborate with external labs to optimize analytical methods.
Develop and validate Finished Product Specifications for new ingredients.
Support FSQA investigations into method viability and accuracy.
Participate in new ingredient development from feasibility to commercialization.
Contribute ideas to the innovation pipeline.
Ensure projects meet deadlines, quality, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with CSO and Mycology teams on patent filings and strategy.
Qualifications
M.Sc. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related science.
5+ years in functional ingredients, dietary supplements, or functional food industry in product development.
Laboratory experience with mass spectrometry, DNA sequencing, chromatography, antibody assays, or equivalent.
Experience managing external labs and CROs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to prioritize and organize workload.
Passion for product testing, food science, safety and quality.
Exceptional problem‑solving ability.
