Principal + CEO at Beth Interactive Inc. | AHP 40 Under 40 Director of Fundraising Strategy A dynamic digital‑first philanthropy and communications agency with 18 full‑time team members, Beth Interactive seeks a full‑time Director of Fundraising Strategy. We are looking for an energetic, motivated and detail‑oriented team leader with a background in healthcare fundraising/non‑profits and people management. Our new Director should be able to jump in quickly to direct fundraising and communications campaigns with client partners and colleagues, and plan to lead a team of 1‑2 FTEs in the future.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Leading and teaching a small team of fundraising specialists (1‑2 people), with potential to add staff as appropriate.

Directing multi‑channel fundraising campaigns — strategy, creation, logistics, implementation, analytics and project management — both directly with clients and internally with the BI team.

Guiding effective meetings with executive leaders and non‑profit clients.

Providing campaign analysis and reporting, independently and in collaboration with the team.

Supporting the team’s work product, growth and development.

Onboarding new clients and retaining or growing current partnerships.

Managing ambiguity and client satisfaction by turning uncertainty into goals and advice, and acting as an escalation point for your immediate team.

Researching and testing philanthropy solutions and ongoing best practices.

Directing and/or supporting special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Representing Beth Interactive at the highest level of professionalism, quality work product and excellent customer service.

Ideal Candidate

Strongly preferred:

Healthcare fundraising and/or annual giving expertise. Content creator experienced in developing appeals unique to healthcare and/or annual giving; higher education fundraising experience is also relevant. Able and excited to bring inventive and fresh fundraising ideas to the table.

People leader:

Experienced manager who balances leading a team while delivering exceptionally high‑quality work product to clients. Must be able to hire, coach and empower the team while managing a portfolio of clients. Sets an excellent team culture and develops talent. (Note that this role does not yet have a team of direct reports; this would be built in the future.)

Project manager:

Extremely organized, detail‑oriented, phenomenal communicator. Must be proactive, comfortable and professional when working with clients and the team. Capable of independently managing a wide variety of project deliverables and deadlines while keeping clients, vendors and other team members on task. Directs the team while collaborating strategically with the Vice President and/or Principal + CEO.

Personality:

Superior verbal communication and interpersonal skills essential. Ambitious and self‑motivated. A strong team player who is willing to jump into new things and support their team members while on tight deadlines. Mentors and models others while exhibiting the ability to proactively deal with adversity and uncertainty.

Extra skills:

Ideally some copywriting/editing or digital arena expertise, and any of the following skills are a plus: strong proofreading/editing skills, copywriting, data analytics, email marketing expertise, etc.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in fundraising, non‑profit management, communications, marketing or related field.

Prior experience:

Minimum 5 years of fundraising and/or non‑profit experience, ideally directing or working with a non‑profit. Minimum 1 year experience managing a team of 1‑2 people. Applicants with unrelated but relevant experience may be considered.

Location:

Candidate ideally located in Chicago, with the ability to work hybrid (remotely as desired in a productive work environment, and in person on occasion). Most Chicago‑based team members are in the office 2‑3 days a week. We are open to the right candidate regardless of location.

Travel:

Local travel within Chicago and across the US may be involved depending on company and client needs. Trips are infrequent and planned well in advance.

Benefits & Compensation

Full‑time position. Annual salary of $82,000–$95,000 with generous PTO, health, dental and vision insurance plans; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; employer‑provided life and short‑term disability insurance; performance‑based bonus and paid professional development opportunities.

60‑minute virtual Zoom interview with prospective team of colleagues

Follow‑up: Request for 3 professional references

Preferred in‑person final interview: 30‑minute panel interview with collaborating colleagues, plus 60‑minute check‑in with hiring manager and Principal + CEO

Interview timing is flexible and can be scheduled based on the applicant’s availability, including evenings and weekends if necessary.
