Desktop Applications Engineer – Modern Workplace
Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP is seeking a Desktop Application Engineer to help shape the modern workplace experience for one of the world’s premier law firms. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on application packaging, testing, and deployment in a Microsoft 365 environment.
Compensation: $120,000 – $150,000 per year. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
Responsibilities Application Packaging & Deployment
Package and maintain Windows applications;
Deploy applications using Intune/Endpoint Manager, SCCM/MECM or equivalent tools;
Design and manage deployment rings/phased rollouts and rollback procedures;
Troubleshoot application, installation, and compatibility issues, including Office add‑ins and line‑of‑business apps.
Modern Workplace / M365
Configure and maintain OneDrive for multi‑office use;
Partner with security and infrastructure on M365‑related policies (DLP, conditional access, device compliance);
Assist with deployment and configuration of Copilot for Microsoft 365;
Work with security/governance teams to align Copilot usage with firm data protections;
Support Office integrations with legal/professional tools (DMS, PDF tools, templates, add‑ins).
Operations & Future Endpoint Management
Act as an escalation point for complex desktop application issues;
Maintain documentation and runbooks for packaging and deployment;
Contribute to standard desktop images and baseline configurations;
Opportunity to grow into broader endpoint management responsibilities, including policy configuration, compliance enforcement, reporting, and monitoring endpoint health and patch status.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred;
At least 3 to 5+ years of experience in Desktop Engineering, Endpoint Engineering, and/or Application Packaging role in a medium‑to‑large enterprise environment;
Strong hands‑on experience with Windows application packaging (MSI/MSIX/App‑V or similar), Intune/Endpoint Manager and/or SCCM/MECM for application deployments, and Windows 10/11 in an enterprise, domain‑joined environment;
Practical PowerShell (or similar) scripting skills for automation and troubleshooting;
Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 / Modern Workplace (Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, basic Entra ID concepts);
Availability to work additional hours, as needed.
Nice to have
Experience in a law firm or other highly‑regulated/professional services environment;
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and non‑technical users;
Demonstrated experience administering Microsoft Copilot features and governance controls, along with other AI technologies;
Experience with Ivanti Environment Manager, MDM/MAM solutions, Purview or similar tools.
