About the Firm A leading Chicago-based law firm seeks a talented Restructuring Associate to join its dynamic and growing Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice. The team represents a diverse client base—including financial institutions, private credit funds, distressed companies, boards of directors, investors, and other stakeholders—in complex Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, special situations, and distressed transactions.
Position Summary The ideal candidate will have strong experience handling restructuring matters, including both in-court and out-of-court scenarios. You will work closely with partners on sophisticated, high-value matters and play an integral role in client strategy, drafting, negotiations, and case management.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients in
Chapter 11 proceedings , including plan negotiations, DIP financing, contested hearings, and adversary litigation.
Assist with
out-of-court workouts , balance-sheet restructurings, liability management transactions, forbearance agreements, and distressed exchanges.
Draft and negotiate key restructuring-related documents, including:
Financing agreements
Restructuring support agreements (RSAs)
Asset purchase agreements (§363 sales)
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, motions, pleadings, and briefs.
Manage discovery, depositions, and factual analysis where litigation is involved.
Work directly with clients and financial advisors, helping shape strategic decisions.
Coordinate with other practice groups (corporate, finance, litigation, tax) for multi-disciplinary matters.
Required Qualifications
J.D. from a top law school
with strong academic performance.
Licensed to practice in
Illinois
(or ability to obtain admission promptly).
2–6 years of experience
in restructuring, bankruptcy, creditor rights, distressed finance, or related commercial litigation.
Strong understanding of the
Bankruptcy Code ,
UCC , corporate finance concepts, and restructuring principles.
Excellent research, writing, drafting, and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to handle responsibility, manage multiple timelines, and work collaboratively under pressure.
Strong professional judgment and client-service orientation.
