Location & Pay Salt Lake City, UT – $35.00–$54.00 per hour.
Primary Purpose Provides technical and non‑technical services in laboratory service areas under the direction of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Technologist, Certified, MLT II and/or MLT III. Duties include specimen preparation, performing selected waived and moderate complex analytical processes, quality control documentation, equipment maintenance, and data handling.
Schedule 7‑On/7‑Off B week, 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
Training Schedule Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. Dayshift for approximately 3 months.

Essential Functions
Use routine and specialized automated and non‑automated laboratory procedures in accordance with SOPs.
Perform analytical and decision‑making functions with direct supervision.
Identify and report abnormal, unexpected, or erroneous results to appropriate supervisors.
Operate and ensure proper functioning of selected laboratory instruments; calibrate as necessary.
Perform minor troubleshooting and routine maintenance under supervision.
Document quality control results; refer failed QC to supervisors.
Understand specimen collection, handling, and transport; prepare specimens and assess acceptability.
Process data, transcribe results, and verify entries in the laboratory computer system.
Meet lab section turnaround times and output measures.
Train others on new procedures to prescribed competency.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including bench surfaces and equipment.
Stock and manage reagents and supplies, noting receipt dates, lot numbers, and discarding outdated stock.
Assist with special and unusual test requests and answer telephone calls courteously.
Perform internal and external proficiency testing as directed.
Respond to technical questions consistent with training and competency; assist in training new staff and students.
Remain informed of procedural changes and contribute to QA data collection.
Perform qualified observer assessments of non‑waived testing after two years of experience.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical And Other Requirements
Stooping and bending at waist; reaching in any direction.
Mobility between work sites and office areas.
Frequent communication with colleagues.
Work in a biohazard environment with appropriate PPE per CDC and OSHA.
Comply with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary work; lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
Fine motor control for typing and manual tasks.
Good visual acuity, including color vision.
Commitment to continuing education and staying current with best practices.
Qualifications
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Medical Lab Technology or related field.
Preferred:
Associate’s Degree or better.
Experience:
Certified MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT). Must be an associate degree graduate from an NAACLS accredited MLT program, or have completed an NAACLS accredited MLS certificate program, or completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory training course of at least 50 weeks with the specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist.
Preferred:
Clinical laboratory experience.
Licenses & Certifications:
Medical Laboratory Technician certification.
