Open Rank Faculty Position: Medical Surgical Nursing
Join Simmons University as an Open Rank Faculty Position in Medical Surgical Nursing. Location: Boston, MA. This role is part of a university dedicated to student success and diversity.
Teaching Responsibilities Annual teaching load: 7 courses for contract faculty, 6 courses for tenure‑track faculty. Courses may include:
Medical‑Surgical Nursing
Fundamentals of Nursing
Complex Care Nursing
Synthesis
Transitions to Professional Nursing
Purpose, Leadership, and Action (PLAN)
Additional responsibilities include:
Continuous improvement of teaching skills and pedagogy with a focus on inclusion.
Providing support to students through office hours and engagement.
Implementing and evaluating curricula to achieve learning outcomes.
Service Responsibilities
Advising pre‑licensure students.
Participating in curriculum development and program meetings.
Engaging in faculty governance and committee activities.
Contributing to school and university committees.
Scholarly Responsibilities (Tenure‑Track)
Conduct and publish research advancing nursing and the School of Nursing’s mission.
Maintain professional development and relevant certifications.
Engage in community scholarship and professional activities.
Grant writing is encouraged.
Professional Engagement (Contract)
Maintain competency in discipline and licensure.
Participate in professional development.
Stay engaged in broader academic community.
Qualifications & Skills
Master’s degree in nursing required.
Doctoral degree preferred for non‑tenure‑track, required for tenure‑track.
Preferred: 5+ years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated commitment to clinical and academic excellence.
Prior college‑level teaching experience preferred.
Current unrestricted RN license in Massachusetts.
Ability to work with diverse student identities.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong communicator.
Terms of Service This position is based in Boston for a 10‑month contract, tenure‑track or contract. Contract faculty teach seven courses; tenure‑track faculty teach six courses with course release time for scholarship in the first five years. Faculty must comply with all Simmons policies.

Salary and Benefits
Annual salary range: $71,670 – $98,063.
