Job Description Summary
Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will have plant-wide leadership responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing activities and initiatives that have broad organizational impact focusing on engineering activities. Responsible for managing a manufacturing plant's sustaining engineering, process engineering and overall platform manufacturing engineering support.
Responsibilities and Duties
Manage a manufacturing plant's sustaining engineering, process engineering and overall platform manufacturing engineering support.
Design, recommend and implement cost reduction projects within the scope of annual plant targeted goals.
Assess resource skill requirements, labor loading, prioritization of work and time allocation for sustaining engineering activities and projects within a manufacturing plant.
Drive robustness evaluation and process/equipment improvements for new manufacturing and technology processes.
Establish and drive effective project engineering management practices to plan and execute projects; coach team members in the successful integration of structured development processes, engineering and risk management methods to ensure a project's technical and business success. Maintain active involvement in all major projects for the manufacturing plant and oversee the work of the team.
Be familiar with GMPs, ISO requirements, the IVD Directive, the CE Mark, Six Sigma and LEAN principles. Have a working knowledge for validation of manufacturing processes within the IVD or pharmaceutical industries. Use BD's validation methodology, work with QMS and change management process to plan and validate design, process, equipment changes or new introductions.
Manage the supervisor team and be responsible for selection, training and coaching of the supervisors; lead associate engagement strategies with supervisors and serve as a cultural ambassador across manufacturing operations.
All functional activities will be performed in accordance with Plant Operating Procedures, GPDS guidelines, and all applicable BDDS Quality Procedures.
Qualifications
BS degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences or Business is required; Advanced technical (MS or PhD) and/or business management degree (MBA) is preferred.
Direct supervisor responsibility required with a minimum of five (5) years leadership experience.
Broad knowledge of high performance manufacturing, FDA regulatory requirements, validation concepts and techniques, standard cost accounting, and business finance is required.
Experience with lean manufacturing, six sigma, and category management is desirable along with MRP and production order transaction maintenance experience using SAP.
Knowledge and experience with the BD Quality system or equivalent is preferred.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, fluency in interpreting and modeling BD values, ability to seek input from others, ability to relinquish control, and knowledge of current and anticipated customer needs.
Demonstrate proven leadership skills capability and ability to mentor, coach, and develop other associates.
