Staff Attorney – Domestic Violence Unit

Staff Attorney – Domestic Violence Unit.
Overview Legal Services of Long Island (formerly Nassau Suffolk Law Services) has been providing free, high‑quality legal counsel in civil matters when basic human needs are at stake for over 50 years. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services on Long Island, we support thousands of poor and low‑income families and individuals who cannot afford an attorney.
Office Location Suffolk County (Islandia Office).
Position Responsibilities
Represent victims of domestic violence in Suffolk County in Family Court, Supreme Court, and administrative hearings.
Handle matters including orders of protection, custody, visitation, child and spousal support, divorce, and lease termination pursuant to relevant domestic‑violence statutes.
Apply general knowledge of public benefits law.
Participate in community legal education.
Compensation & Benefits Start Date: Immediate. Salary: $76,000‑$102,561 DOE (union scale). Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability (100% premium covered by employer), 403(b) defined contribution, and Student Loan Reimbursement (subject to collective agreement) at one‑year anniversary.
Requirements
Admission to New York State Bar and admission or eligibility for admission to the Federal Bar (pending admission accepted).
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to the goals and clients of the legal services program.
