Base pay range $28.00/hr – $37.00/hr

Summary The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Nursing is to assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to‑day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. The role is directed by the Administrator, the Medical Director, and/or the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day‑to‑day functions of the nursing department.

Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern day‑to‑day nursing functions.

Ensure that reference material at the nurse’s station is current and recommend materials to the Director.

Develop and periodically update nursing service objectives and statements of philosophy.

Assist in developing and implementing a nursing organization structure and provide written and oral recommendations to the Director.

Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.

Ensure nursing personnel follow their job descriptions and assist in maintaining and updating written job descriptions.

Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies.

Assist the resident and Discharge Planning Coordinator in planning the nursing portion of the resident’s discharge plan.

Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.

Monitor the facility’s QI, QM, and survey reports and provide recommendations to the Director.

Assist the Director in obtaining staffing information that must be posted daily.

Maintain confidentiality of resident protected health information and report any suspected violations.

Serve on the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as directed.

Schedule, attend, and help develop agendas for Care Plan Team Meetings.

Assist in determining staffing needs and recommend appropriate nursing personnel levels.

Ensure sufficient licensed practical and/or registered nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants are available each shift.

Develop work assignments, schedules, and assist supervisory staff in completing tasks.

Delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors as appropriate.

Assist in preparing performance evaluations.

Conduct daily rounds to ensure nursing personnel meet standards and report findings.

Review complaints and grievances from department personnel and report as required.

Administer departmental disciplinary action fairly and without discrimination.

Interpret policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.

Ensure nursing personnel participate in the facility’s TB testing program.

Participate in interviewing and selecting residents for admission.

Inform nursing personnel of new admissions, room assignments, and escort new residents as needed.

Review nurse’s notes for clarity, descriptiveness, and adherence to resident wishes.

Schedule daily rounds to observe residents and assess nursing needs.

Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules; report medication errors.

Provide direct nursing care as necessary.

Report problem areas and assist in developing corrective action.

Plan and conduct in‑service training ensuring a well‑educated nursing department.

Participate in mandatory new hire orientation.

Assist in scheduling annual in‑service training for staff.

Assist the Safety Officer in developing safety standards for the nursing department.

Identify, evaluate, and classify job functions regarding blood/body fluid exposure.

Maintain clean and sanitary nursing work areas and resident care rooms.

Conduct fire safety and disaster preparedness drills.

Ensure adequate stock levels of medications, supplies, and equipment.

Assist the Maintenance Director in preventive maintenance of nursing equipment.

Ensure only trained personnel operate department equipment.

Assist in initial and comprehensive assessments of nursing needs for each resident.

Encourage resident families to participate in care planning.

Provide care that reflects resident wishes.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.

Ensure nursing personnel understand resident rights, including the right to refuse treatment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.

Registered Nurse with current, unencumbered state licensure.

Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related health care setting.

Minimum 6 months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.

Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

Supportive team member who contributes to teamwork.

Ability to make independent decisions when warranted.

Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public.

Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines for nursing care facilities.

Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and willingness to handle difficult residents.

Skill in conveying information about resident conditions.
