The

Imaging Services Assistant Manager

is responsible for supporting the Imaging Services Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Imaging Department. This includes supervising clinical and support staff and coordinating services across various imaging modalities, which may include

Diagnostic Radiography, Fluoroscopy, DEXA Bone Densitometry, Mammography, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, as well as Registration, Scheduling, and HIM responsibilities . The assistant manager works alongside the Imaging manager to ensure that departmental operations are efficient, compliant with all regulatory standards, and aligned with organizational goals for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.

This leadership role also includes direct participation in imaging procedures, depending on the assistant manager’s scope of licensure, credentials, and competencies. The Imaging Services Assistant Manager works collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, and staff to promote high-quality imaging services and an exceptional patient experience.

Essential Functions Departmental Operations & Supervision

Assists in the day-to-day coordination of imaging services, ensuring timely, safe, and accurate imaging procedures.

Supervises and supports technologists and ancillary staff within assigned modalities.

Ensures staffing levels, workflow, and schedules support departmental productivity and patient care standards.

Participates in hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation of assigned staff.

Supports the implementation and adherence to departmental policies, protocols, and procedures in compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies (e.g., MQSA, ACR, CDPH, FDA, RHB, CMS).

Collaborates with the Imaging Services Manager to address performance, quality, compliance, and service delivery issues.

Clinical Oversight & Technical Duties

Performs clinical duties as working manager, within scope of license, such as diagnostic imaging, QA testing, or procedure assistance, as needed.

Ensuring equipment is maintained, functional, and compliant with ACR and manufacturer standards.

Supports and leads quality control programs, including image quality reviews, documentation, and compliance audits (e.g., EQUIP for mammography).

Serves as a subject matter expert or modality lead for specialized areas (e.g., Mammography, CT, Fluoroscopy), if applicable.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance

Ensures departmental readiness for audits and inspections by maintaining accurate records, certifications, licenses, and accreditation standards.

Oversees documentation and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as organizational policies related to safety, HIPAA, and infection control.

Participates in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Leadership & Communication

Promotes a culture of service excellence, collaboration, and accountability.

Communicates regularly with staff to disseminate policy updates, workflow changes, and organizational priorities.

Works with the Imaging Services Manager and leadership to support budgeting, capital planning, and strategic goals.

Minimum Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) License.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification.

California Mammography Certification, if applicable.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Proficiency in PACS, RIS, and EMR systems.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient-service skills.

Preferred experience with EQUIP documentation and MQSA audits.

Preferred familiarity with Breast Care Coordination software or able to learn.

Demonstrated leadership ability with a professional, collaborative demeanor.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to lead and coach peers while maintaining high performance standards.

Capable of managing multiple regulatory and quality assurance responsibilities.

Preferred

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and lift/move patients or equipment as needed.

Potential exposure to ionizing radiation with adherence to safety protocols.

Flexibility in scheduling, including occasional weekends or holidays, depending on departmental needs.
