Role Overview
The Treasurer, reporting to the Chief of Staff, oversees all financial operations of the Tribe. This includes financial planning, budgeting, accounting, debt and project management, treasury services, and compliance with policies and regulations. The role requires collaboration with Tribal leadership, legislators, and staff to ensure sound financial practices and transparency. Key Responsibilities
Safeguard and manage the Tribe’s financial assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Direct financial planning, investments, and banking functions; delegate tasks to staff. Prepare and present monthly financial reports; maintain accurate records. Collaborate with the Governor to develop annual budgets covering all revenue sources, including gaming. Administer large, complex budgets and allocate resources effectively. Interpret and apply federal, state, and local financial regulations. Prepare and submit annual tax documents. Analyze economic and financial trends impacting Tribal operations. Maintain confidentiality, security, and professional standards. Provide excellent customer service to Tribal members and employees. Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. Preferred:
CPA certification. Experience in organizational management, financial analysis, and team leadership. Strong knowledge of Sage MIP and Abila Accounting Software. Proven ability to lead in sensitive, political environments with a proactive, results‑driven approach. Excellent relationship‑building and collaboration skills. Ability to create structure in flexible environments; high sense of urgency and risk‑taking mindset. Seniority Level
