Position Overview The Vice President of Accounting will lead the accounting function for Five Star Energy Services, overseeing two Controllers and the Payroll team. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, and alignment of accounting processes with organizational goals. The VP will drive efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic initiatives during a period of growth and integration.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight
Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting.
Manage and mentor two Controllers and the Payroll Manager, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Ensure alignment of accounting workflows with corporate objectives and ERP systems (Acumatica, Paylocity, Vista).
Financial Reporting
Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition, job cost reporting, and reconciliations.
Present financial results and variance analysis to executive leadership.
Audit & Compliance
Lead annual external audit process and coordinate with auditors.
Maintain compliance with internal controls, SOX-like standards, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure adherence to prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements.
Treasury, Debt & Covenant Management
Daily management of consolidated cash position and forecasting of liquidity near term and quarterly.
Monitor compliance with debt covenants and reporting obligations.
Prepare lender reporting packages and manage relationships with financial institutions.
Process Optimization
Implement improvements to reduce manual rework and fragmented data inputs.
Drive integration of field tracking tools with ERP for accurate billing and job setup.
Payroll Oversight
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including certified payroll compliance.
Oversee resolution of payroll discrepancies and enforce recovery protocols for overpayments.
Strategic Initiatives
Support merger-related financial integration and harmonization of accounting policies.
Collaborate with FP&A and operations on budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including multi-entity operations.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit processes, and debt compliance.
Experience with ERP systems (Acumatica, Vista) and payroll platforms (Paylocity).
Proven ability to lead teams and optimize workflows in a dynamic environment.
