Summary Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties under general supervision. Reports to a Laboratory Supervisor. Responsibilities include receipt, accessioning, centrifugation and decanting of patient specimens, and communicating with clinicians at the Front Window and over the phone.

Essential Functions

Accurately enters information from requisition (including patient name, unit number, requesting area, time sample drawn, physician's name, tubes received, tests requested, general comments) into computer.

Transfers samples from racks to the centrifuges and to decant station.

Processes ADDs: locates sample, adds tests to original accession, completes ADDs form.

Acts as resource to CLA I and CLA II staff.

Handles special specimens (e.g. Sendouts).

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Experience Minimum two years of experience as a CLA I or II 2-3 years required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Good interpersonal and communication skills so as to be able to interact effectively with individuals in the lab and the hospital.

Ability to multitask and work accurately under stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands.

Demonstrates excellent dependability, reliability, accuracy, prioritization ability, problem solving skills, customer service and teamwork.
