Substation Project Structural Engineer HDR Engineering is looking for a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. The engineer will perform structural design for high‑voltage substation projects up to 500 kV, including steel structure and foundation analysis and design.

Key responsibilities include:

Detailed design, calculations, and detailing of steel structural members such as rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes.

Foundation design for substation structures (drilled piers, spread footings, driven piles, etc.) using industry standard software.

Preparation and review of construction and material specifications.

Assignment of project tasks to EITs and providing technical guidance.

Conducting quality checks and reviews in accordance with HDR Quality Management System.

Collaborating with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.

Independent work and mentorship of EITs and designers.

Managing multiple concurrent projects and coordinating with teams in different locations.

Participating in project reviews as needed.

Some travel may be required.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

Experience with high‑voltage substation and switchyard structural design.

Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE‑113, AISC‑360, ASCE‑7, ACI‑318 and other standards.

Proficiency with design software such as PLS‑Tower, Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L‑Pile, or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years of technical design experience in substation projects.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong conceptual and problem‑solving abilities.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license recognized in the jurisdiction of assignment.

Previous structural engineering experience.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software (AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP, etc.).

Experience with a consulting firm.

Schedule Full‑time, Regular, Substation Engineering.

Compensation $90,682 – $145,990 (depends on experience, education and location).
