Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Product Development
Job Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play an integral role in the creation, standardization, and improvement of our packaged equipment product lines, which include pump stations, water treatment systems, control panels, and power distribution equipment. Your focus will be on developing robust, repeatable, innovative, and manufacturable mechanical designs that can be utilized across a family of standard products. You will collaborate with various engineering disciplines, manufacturing, procurement, and customers to transform ideas and requirements into well‑documented, production‑ready designs.
Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical solutions for standard product families and configurable options, ensuring alignment with product requirements, site constraints, and industry standards.
Create designs that emphasize manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness across multiple builds.
Perform designs and engineering in accordance with job specifications, site layouts, size restrictions, and existing equipment being replaced or retrofitted.
Develop and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, and part drawings using industry‑standard CAD tools.
Generate accurate and comprehensive drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, welding details, and material specifications.
Create and update design standards, templates, and libraries for recurring components and assemblies within product lines.
Generate and maintain clear, structured Bills of Material (BOMs) that accurately reflect product configurations and options.
Ensure component compatibility, proper material selection, and alignment with cost and lead‑time targets.
Participate in product definition and roadmap discussions, providing mechanical input on feasibility, risks, and tradeoffs.
Support prototype builds, pilot runs, and early production by working directly with manufacturing to resolve fit, form, and function issues.
Provide technical assistance during manufacturing and assembly to resolve mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
Investigate field issues or recurring production problems related to mechanical designs and drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
Essential Skills
Mechanical Design/Drafting degree/certification or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience (3+ years) in mechanical design or drafting, preferably in an OEM, product development, or industrial equipment environment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, structural considerations, and materials.
Knowledge of relevant industry and design standards (e.g., ANSI, UL).
Experience creating production‑ready BOMs, fabrication drawings, and routings.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot design‑related issues through both analysis and hands‑on collaboration.
Effective written and verbal communication skills to work with cross‑functional internal teams.
Detail‑oriented mindset with a commitment to accurate, high‑quality design and documentation.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
