Job Overview HDR is looking for a Data Center Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services team in Denver, Colorado. The candidate will satisfy the demands of a diverse client base, including Science and Technology, Mission Critical and Commercial projects. Experience within mission‑critical environments and a desire to mentor and train junior electrical engineers are required.

Primary Responsibilities

Design projects from start to finish, coordinating closely with clients, project managers, electrical team members, architects, other engineering disciplines, contractors, marketing, and all stakeholders.

Develop feasibility reports, construction documents, specifications, engineering calculations, and perform RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site investigations and overall construction administration.

Lead technical electrical design for data center/mission‑critical projects, ensuring reliability, growth increments, cost balance, sustainability, construction schedules and future flexibility.

Provide detailed design and coordination with multidisciplinary team members.

Attend design meetings and lead electrical discussions.

Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines.

Participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.

Support design during construction, including field observations, submittal and shop drawing review, and RFI support.

Mentor, organize, and facilitate the growth of junior staff.

Coordinate workload across the project to complete documents on schedule.

Perform other duties as needed.

Travel to job sites or other HDR offices as required, with advance communication to coordinate project work and personal life.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.

Experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and electrical design software.

Commitment to active participation in employee‑owned culture.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of consulting engineering experience in high‑reliability electrical systems.

Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience within an architectural/engineering or consulting firm.

Working knowledge of the NEC, UPS, power distribution, generator support systems, grounding systems and one‑line creation.

Familiarity with Uptime Topology standards.

Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, SKM Power Tools (or similar), CYMCAP (or similar programs), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Experience with Newforma Project Center or ProjectWise Document Management Software.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Strong professional initiative and motivation.

Client‑focused mindset and positive outcomes orientation.

Effective time‑management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Technical and specification writing skills.

NCEES Registration.

Preference given to local candidates.

Professional Development

Active participation in industry organizations is encouraged. Participation in professional development seminars, courses, workshops, or conferences must be approved in advance.

Additional industry certifications such as Uptime ATD are encouraged.

Maintain continuing education requirements for any certification or license.
