What To Expect Tesla Cell Design team is looking for a highly motivated, experienced engineer to lead the cross‑functional electrochemical design and validation of new battery cell designs. This role would serve as the technical project leader, driving efforts both within Tesla teams and with external suppliers.

You will use your engineering expertise to collaborate with subject matter experts across Material Engineering, Cell Engineering, Mechanical Design, Product Design, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to accelerate new technologies from lab to production scale. Success in this role requires the ability to lead Echem work across teams and synthesize many inputs into the best final design.

What You’ll Do

Lead Echem in cell design team, including Echem design, active & inactive material, electrode design & characterization & qualification

Work with mechanical design engineer in cell design team for new cell product design and manufacture

Drive key engineering decisions with Tesla teams and external suppliers to push new cell designs from concept to mass production

Define test plans to validate new cell designs and root cause new failure modes

Synthesize test results into program level impacts and report regularly to Tesla leadership

Collaborate with internal design teams to define cell electrochemical, mechanical, and safety performance requirements

What You’ll Bring

Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience

5+ years of industry experience in battery field

Strong expertise in electrochemical and engineering fundamentals, ability to apply past learning to root cause new problems

Demonstrated success working with cross‑functional engineering teams and manufacturing partners

Direct experience in lithium‑ion cell design, cell qualification, cell manufacturing, project management, battery module design, and/or supply chain a plus

Ability to work independently lead on multiple projects with complex requirements

Excellent written and communication skills and a collaborative working style

Expected Compensation $80,000 – $156,000 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
