Job Description Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is hiring a Supplier Quality Engineer in Santa Barbara, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring new and existing suppliers and their supplied products meet site and program quality requirements. This position supports the Quality and Procurement teams by assuring supplier quality performance and maintaining successful supplier relationships.

Compensation & Working Hours Competitive salary: $105,000.00/yr. – $125,000.00/yr. (DOE). Full‑Time, Monday to Friday, on‑site.

Responsibilities

Work under general direction, independently determine and develop approaches to solutions; results are reviewed upon completion for meeting objectives.

Own the Quality Management System for supplier quality assurance processes & procedures.

Review specifications to assist in proper supplier selection.

Conduct initial and ongoing supplier quality assessments, audits, scoring, and certification.

Review program requirements to assign the proper quality clauses to purchase orders during the approval process.

Perform supplier source inspections and pre‑ship reviews.

Process supplier advance deviation requests.

Proactively and reactively develop suppliers, implement improvements, and correct based on performance metrics and re‑evaluation processes.

Investigate and troubleshoot supplier‑related product or production issues.

Process supplier nonconformances through the nonconforming material process, and manage the Discrepant Material Report (DMR) process.

Process supplier corrective action requests, ensure adequacy of root‑cause analysis and corrective & preventive actions, and follow up to ensure implementation and effectiveness.

Interface with customers, suppliers, and program personnel on supplier quality‑related issues.

Provide support for selected projects and programs as determined by the Quality Manager.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality Management, or a STEM field and a minimum of 7 years of experience in supplier quality engineering, preferably in aerospace or space technology, or 10+ years of relevant experience.

Knowledge of supplier quality assurance and related fields.

Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).

Proven experience in root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

Knowledge of common inspection tools and how to use them.

Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, including GD&T.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and cross‑functional teams.

Adaptability and flexibility with evolving work priorities & challenges.

Proficiency in using quality management software and tools.

Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to travel to suppliers up to 25%.

US Citizen or US Person as defined by ITAR.

Desired Skills & Experience

Master’s degree in a related field.

ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification.

Experience with aerospace technology, products, and processes.

Experience with optical and/or opto‑mechanical hardware.

ERP system experience.
