Description What you will do:
As a member of the AWS Board Core Design & Services team you will own next‑generation server components. You will have demonstrated results in the architecture and development of components used in servers, including motherboards, graphics, accelerators, and programmable hardware. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary engineering team to design, develop, validate, and launch at large scale. You will provide leadership in applying new technologies to servers, continuously improving performance, quality, and cost to deliver a world‑class customer experience.

A day in the life:
Hardware engineers within this team work in a variety of areas: hardware design and development; building systems that validate hardware quality in manufacturing; monitoring and improving hardware reliability in data centers and platforms. We cover everything from low‑level hardware to embedded software and systems that operate and monitor it. Engineers identify and develop simple solutions to complex problems, considering cost, performance, and reliability.
About The Team Our organization is responsible for system innovation in the servers used by all of Amazon Web Services. Beyond product delivery we actively manage the fleet of servers in the growing data center, tracking key business and operational metrics to minimise or eliminate customer impact from device‑related issues. We support the development and management of compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity services, including specialised security solutions.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
5+ years of hardware engineering experience
Experience collaborating with ECAD/physical board designers and reviewing PCB designs with Allegro, CAM350, or equivalent
Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
7+ years of experience with I2C, SPI, UART interfaces
Experience interfacing with thermal, mechanical, firmware and software teams during product development
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stack‑up, and circuit board layout
Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submissions
Experience identifying and resolving complex issues
Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
Experience designing and developing large‑scale services
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
10+ years of experience in server design for cloud or enterprise applications
Experience designing for reuse across multiple products
Strong organizational and planning skills
Desire to work in a fast‑paced environment
Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
Experience with technical program management is a plus
Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
