Underwriting Specialist – Excess Casualty
Zurich is currently hiring an experienced Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – Excess Casualty to join our growing Construction team. We are open to hiring in Chicago, IL; Overland Park, KS; Pittsburgh, PA; Independence, OH; or Minneapolis, MN.
Hybrid working is available with a flexible schedule, meeting agents and brokers in the marketplace and spending three days per week in the office or on the market.
Responsibilities
Underwrite and price a solid renewal book.
Identify and analyze new growth opportunities.
Ensure accounts are qualified, meet the organization’s appetite, and are balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make agent / broker / customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.
Oversee negotiations of terms & conditions and close deals.
Ensure cross‑sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the Zurich customer.
Basic Qualifications Underwriting Specialist:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 6+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1+ year of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree, 4+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, and knowledge of line/s of business, regulatory guidelines, time restraints for quotes, and Microsoft Office.
Executive Underwriter:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree, 8+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, and knowledge of line/s of business, regulatory guidelines, time restraints for quotes, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation The salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000 – $125,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. For the Executive Underwriter, the range is $98,500 – $165,000, with bonus eligibility at 15%. The combined range for this position is $75,000 – $165,000.
