Our client, a respected nonprofit on Chicago's west side, is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team. The Accounting Manager is responsible for performing functions related to the daily financial and operational management of the organization, including reconciliations, review and processing duties, ensuring accurate and timely financial recordkeeping, budgeting, reporting, and supervising two Staff Accountants.
Base Pay Range $40.00/hr - $50.00/hr
Responsibilities
Supervise Staff Accountants (AP/AR) to ensure all relevant financial and transaction data are entered and categorized accurately and timely to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
Review and approve revenue and expense entries.
Handle payroll reconciliation and processing.
Accounts Payable – review payments, generate checks, verify accuracy between invoices and payment method, obtain and file backup data, manage vendor accounts, generate year‑end 1099s.
Accounts Receivable – coordinate deposits, prepare invoice requests, verify accuracy, obtain and file backup data.
Reporting – generate monthly financial reports, contract vouchers, funder fiscal reports, and prepare files for audits.
Filing/Recordkeeping – oversee and ensure accurate, organized records/documents.
Perform other special projects and analysis as assigned by the Director of Finance.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in non‑profit.
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
Grant accounting experience preferred.
Experience with NetSuite preferred.
Demonstrated ability to learn new software and processes.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and verbal skills.
Demonstrated time‑management skills and ability to manage priorities and workflow.
Good interpersonal skills, flexibility in a small office, confidentiality, and thoroughness.
