Zürich is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director for its Excess & Special Risks (E&S) team based in Maitland, FL, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Dallas, TX or Houston, TX. This hybrid role provides flexibility and requires active marketplace presence, meeting with agents, brokers and national wholesalers to drive growth and profitability.
Responsibilities
Proactively seek new account opportunities and manage existing renewal accounts.
Demonstrate specialized knowledge in underwriting excess casualty lines of business.
Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Contribute to the development and completion of proposals.
Qualify accounts that meet the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.
Make agent/broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.
Negotiate terms & conditions and close deals.
Cross‑sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
Participate in Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and/or territory.
Engage proactively in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.
Develop strong broker and client networks in industries underwritten by the Business Unit.
Basic Qualifications Executive Underwriter – E&S Excess Casualty
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
AVP, Underwriting Director – Excess Casualty
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of E&S Commercial insurance industry experience.
Technical knowledge of Excess Underwriting within E&S.
Established wholesale broker relationships (E&S brokers).
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Your pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills and experience. The combined salary range for this position is $98,500–$215,000. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $98,500–$165,000 with a 15% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Director is $130,000–$215,000 with a 20% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility.
