Company Overview This opportunity is with a nationally recognized heavy-civil construction firm, with roots dating to the early 1970s. The company specializes in large-scale infrastructure projects — including highways, bridges, rail and transit systems, marine and aviation work, energy, and heavy utilities — and is known for self-performing critical work in earthwork, utilities, pile driving, concrete, steel erection, paving, and full heavy-civil scopes. The firm has built a strong reputation for delivering complex, high-profile infrastructure projects across the Northeast and beyond.
Responsibilities
Lead detailed takeoffs and cost estimates (direct and indirect costs) for heavy civil projects including highways, bridges, marine/transit structures, utilities, and earthwork.
Oversee and direct the estimating team during the bid process; coordinate subcontractor and vendor sourcing, review bids, and evaluate scopes.
Develop pre-bid schedules, manage bid documentation, and submit accurate estimates in compliance with company and client requirements.
Collaborate with project management, preconstruction, and operations leadership to support budget preparation, subcontractor buy-out, and project readiness.
Incorporate self-performed operations (earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, etc.) when applicable or coordinate joint-venture scopes as needed.
Uphold company standards for safety, quality, integrity, and professionalism throughout the estimating and bid preparation phases.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ heavy civil construction experience (e.g. highway, bridge, marine, rail, utilities, or major infrastructure work).
At least 3 years in a supervisory or lead estimating role on heavy‑civil or infrastructure projects valued at $50M+.
Experience with design‑build, CM/GC, or alternative delivery heavy‑civil projects is desirable.
Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., HCSS HeavyJob, BlueBeam, AutoCAD or similar), plus strong computing skills.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, high integrity, and effective communication and leadership abilities to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
Why This Opportunity is Compelling
Work with a top-tier heavy civil contractor with a proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects across highways, bridges, marine, rail/transit, aviation, energy, and utilities.
Be part of a firm that self-performs major scopes — giving you first-hand insight into means, methods, and costs — and supports both traditional bid‑build and design‑build/CM‑GC delivery models.
Opportunity to influence major infrastructure bids and own complex estimating packages for high‑visibility public‑works projects.
